Important information for Concert Band
November 14, 2021
From your Band Director
Hello Dunwoody bands!
Our holiday concert is December 9th at 7pm in the theater at DHS. This concert rotation is filled with challenging music, and the kids are working hard on learning it! A few important notes as we get closer to the event:
Concert Attire: We will be wearing formal concert attire as it will be a formal event. The normal concert dresses and men’s attire that we typically purchase are no longer on “Quick Ship” list and were going to take too long to be shipped in time for our concert. We will hold off on ordering the official concert band uniforms until next semester. The official uniforms you will purchase will be yours to keep all 4 years of your high school band career. With that said, all returning concert band students who already have their outfits should wear those.
Concert Attire for New Members: Females: you will be borrowing concert dresses from me. We will try on the different sizes I have next week in class. Males: you will need to wear black dress pants, black long sleeve button up shirt, black dress shoes, and black bow tie (if you don’t already have a bow tie, please email me, as I have a few extras you can borrow).
Please note that this is a formal event. Students will not be allowed to wear black jeans or black sneakers to the concert. They must wear dress shoes and dress pants. If you have questions, please contact Ms.Caputo.
Concert Reception: Our theme for this winter concert is “Holidays around the World!”. We will be taking a sleigh ride around to different countries and experiencing the different cultures and music played during the Holidays. For our reception, I am asking that each student selects a Culture/Country they would like to represent and bring food or drinks that represent their chosen culture/country. I will be sending out food/drink suggestions and a sign-up genius link before Thanksgiving Break. I can’t wait to celebrate the Holidays with you all at our reception post concert.
Concert Preparation/ Playing Tests: Parents, please continue to encourage your students to bring home their instruments every day and weekend to practice. We only have 14 rehearsals together to learn very challenging music. Students have playing tests that will be for a grade that will not be accepted if turned in late or forgotten. Students must submit their playing tests in google classroom by Sunday night for a grade. It is important that they practice their music at home. All band students have homework every week – to practice! Please help encourage and remind your student to practice at least 30 minutes 5 times per week.
From your Band Booster Board
The marching band season may be over, but hanging out with old and new friends continues. We all had lots of fun at our End of the Season bowling party. Pictures say it best!
Also, be sure to check out the Senior Night and Marching Competition photos and video on the band website’s photo gallery. dunwoodybands.com (dunwoodybands.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5e6dcb1443502b7d964068adb&id=6d3fcf3c26&e=7294eeb7f3)
And since we’re in the festive mood… stay tuned for a fun event in December. Here’s a little hint: start knitting those ugly Christmas/holiday sweaters now! 🙂
Varsity Letters. For those who have been asking about varsity letters for students’ letterman jackets, we have heard from Mr. Blake that our marching band and color guard letters will be ordered and delivered by Wednesday’s jacket fitting. Stay tuned for more details from Ms. Caputo.
Sponsors and Volunteers. Once again, we would like to thank our generous sponsors and wonderful parent volunteers for supporting us during this season. Speaking of volunteers, if you are organized, have attention to detail and want to help the band from the comfort of your home, please consider volunteering to be our next Treasurer. Contact Sandra Stewart and/or Marni Barrett for more details.
Band Benefits. With the Holiday season upon us, please remember to use Amazon Smile and Kroger Rewards to benefit the DHS band program. It’s effortless to use and a portion of all purchases are contributed directly to the band. Information on how to sign up is below. See links below sponsor logos.
