Tune in for updated practice schedules and prep for the fall concert.

October 10, 2021 – October 16, 2021
From your Band Director
Hello Dunwoody Bands, I hope you’re having a great Fall Break! We have a busy couple of weeks coming up for both Concert and Marching Band. Please read the entire newsletter for important info!
Marching Band
Updated practice schedule. To help get our marching band show on the field, we will extend practices by 30 minutes for the remainder of the season (i.e., Tuesday and Thursday practices will be 3:30pm-6pm). We are also adding Friday practices from 3:30pm-5:30pm. Students will stay after school on Fridays to rehearse, and we will provide dinner before heading to the football games. Thank you for your flexibility with these additional practice times!
October 26, DeKalb (DCSD) Marching Expo. We will perform our show and receive evaluations from judges on the performance. This will give us the comments and feedback we need to improve before the competition on November 6^th. It will be held at James R. Hallford Stadium in Clarkston. Adult tickets are $5. Students will stay after school and we will take buses to the event, which starts at 5:00pm. We are the 7th band to perform, and students should return to DHS around 10:00pm. Please see the Sign-Up link below to volunteer to chaperone or pull the trailer.
November 6: White Columns Invitational Marching Competition. We will be attending this competition at Milton High School. Students will arrive at DHS in the morning for practice prior to departing for the event. Our performance time is 2:40pm. More information to come.
Concert Band
October 28, Fall Halloween Concert at 7pm in the DHS Cafeteria. Students report at 5:50pm (fully dressed in your costumes) for 6pm dress rehearsal in the cafeteria. Doors open at 6:45pm for friends and family. Freshmen and Sophomores: bring something sweet (dessert) to share. Juniors and Seniors: bring something salty/savory to share. DHS Booster Board will provide drinks. We need help with Volunteers, Donations and Decorations. Please see the sign-up for more details: DHS Concert Band: Fall Halloween Concert – October 28 (signupgenius.com) (dunwoodybands.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5e6dcb1443502b7d964068adb&id=e75bd5ecdd&e=7294eeb7f3)
To visually represent the stories we are aurally creating with our music, students are encouraged to dress up in costumes! Some costume ideas: Ghosts, Goat, T-Rex, Werewolves, Adams Family characters, surfer/Hawaiian shirt person, shark, monsters, King, etc. My only requirements are that students must follow the school dress code lengths for dresses and be able to play their instruments.
I am SO EXCITED! It’s going to be a great night, and I encourage all concert attendees to dress up in Halloween costumes as well! We will have a prize for best dressed!

From your Band Booster Board
We hope everyone is enjoying Fall Break! We have a busy few weeks ahead, with preparations for Fall Concert and only one month left of Marching Band season.
Marching Band Volunteers. As always, we are so thankful for each one of you who has volunteered thus far. And we invite those who haven’t yet volunteered to please consider helping us and the students at least once this season. There are plenty of needs, and there is truly something for everyone to do… whether you want to help from the comfort of your home or join us at football games or competition. With students staying at school on Friday afternoons starting this week, we will need more volunteers to help serve the students meals we are providing. Thank you so much in advance! dunwoodybands.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5e6dcb1443502b7d964068adb&id=73ffd16a89&e=7294eeb7f3
Marching Band Senior Night, November 5 – Save the Date! We will be celebrating our Marching Band seniors before and during the November 5 football game, and Senior parents and siblings will be invited to join us for dinner from 5:00pm-6:00pm in the DHS Cafeteria. Please mark your calendars, and look for an invitation to RSVP coming soon!
Website Updates. Thank you to our newest sponsor, Steven Rubinacci, who has been working hard to update our Band website. Take a look at the updates at dunwoodybands.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5e6dcb1443502b7d964068adb&id=6d59b41051&e=7294eeb7f3 (dunwoodybands.us18.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5e6dcb1443502b7d964068adb&id=03e97eead5&e=7294eeb7f3) . Our goal is to make the band website our “one-stop” for all information, payments and spirit wear purchases, so stay tuned!
Spirit Wear Sale. We have a limited supply of the navy moisture-wicking polo shirts for sale. Please send an email to Dunwoodybands@gmail.com (mailto:Dunwoodybands@gmail.com) if you would like to make a purchase.
Treasurer Needed. Our Treasurer, Mrs. Trish Cronin, is the mom of a senior, so we are looking for a new Treasurer. We would like the new Treasurer to work alongside Mrs. Cronin for the remainder of this school year to make it an easy transition. If you are organized and good with numbers, and you are willing to help an hour per week during Fall semester and an hour per month during Spring semester, we would love to talk with you! Please contact either Sandra Stewart or Marni Barrett at dunwoodybands@gmail.com (mailto:dunwoodybands@gmail.com) for more information.
